I posted this to the FreeCAD forum a few days ago, but so far no one has offered any assistance. I thought maybe someone here might know a solution?

I ram FreeCAD with no problems under Ubuntu 16.04 in the past. I recently decided to try learning it again. I’m now running Ubuntu 18.04, however. I tried installing FreeCAD from the repositories and when I started FreeCAD, it came up with a «No module named WebGui» error. From searching that error, I found that there was an issue with the version in the repository and that installing from the PPA was the solution. So, I added the PPA and then installed FreeCAD from there. Everything seemed to go ok last night. Remember, I am a novice to FreeCAD so only after watching a few tutorials last night did I learn about Sketcher. So, today, I tried to use Sketcher and every time I clicked ok selecting the X-Y Plane, FreeCAD crashes. I found a few hits on duckduckgo including one about this possibly being related to a graphics card issue. I tried the suggestions there regarding [export LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1] and [ export «LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1»] but it still crashes every time I try to use Sketcher. I know that the graphics card in this laptop apparently doesn’t support OpenGL(? I think) so it’s possible that this is the issue. Is there anything that I can do to get this running properly?

When I try to paste the exact error that comes up when FreeCAD crashes, it totally screws up this text. I will attach it as a text file.

Re: [solved] No module named

I have similar issue. I use a small notebook to drive my 3D printer. The notebook uses Windows10 32 bit. As I cannot find a Windows 10 32 bit version for FreeCad 0.19, I use FreeCad 0.18 on the notebook. If I try to open a file that was created in FreeCad 0.19 by using FreeCad 0.18, I get the following error message:-

Invalid Document.xml: End of document reached
No extension found of type ‘PartGui: :ViewProviderAttachExtension’
: No module named mTempoVis[/color]

Any help would be appreciated

Re: [solved] No module named

Post by GeneFC » Fri Jun 04, 2021 1:59 pm

Actually, the issue is completely different. The original problem was simply a changed name for a module.

The issue you brought up is that there was a significant change to the Sketcher in late 2020. This change made important compatibility changes. Files created with FC 0.18.xxxx can be read with FC 0.19.xxxx and later, but files made with FC 0.19.xxxx cannot be read with any previous versions. The file structure was changed, and there is no way to make the new files readable by old versions.

Hello,
I followed the whole installation procedure on Macos Sierra, but I have this problem

please install freecad (whatever version) from the freecad/label/dev channel if you care about the webmodule. For using freecad it’s not mandatory to have the webmodule available.

Anyway this issue will be solved with 0.19 release.

Normally there should be a list of conflicting packages if conda create fails.

Btw. we are running the conda create command daily to create the freecad bundles
for (win, linux, osx) and this was working today, so I don’t think this is a general issue.

You can also try to create an environment with one of the base dependencies like pivy, occt, boost and see if this also leads to conflicts. If it does try to do the same with one of them to see which one leads to conflicts.

As it seems gitpython is not installed with conda, it’s possible your system installation of gitpython is used and leads to this conflict as it might be an incompatible version.

If it didn’t support OpenGL, FreeCAD would not even launch, it’s a basic requirement. One of the problems is that some graphics chipsets only support an extremely old version of OpenGL.

Those issues are hard to pin down and require a FreeCAD developer with knowledge of these things. I wonder if their count is bigger than one!

I’m puzzled by the influx of crash issues, FreeCAD remains very stable for me.

I’m using the package from the freecad-stable PPA which was just updated to 0.18.1 today.

FreeCAD is just busted (edit: out of the box) on Ubuntu 18.04. Specifically, I am using 18.04.04 and the metacity gnome window manager. I tried it 7 different ways: ( Edit: For the solution, skip to step 6 below. )

It seems obvious to me that there is something wrong with the way that FreeCAD is trying to access the libraries, or the libraries I have.

I would appreciate it if there was a freecad-justworks release. I do not care if it has all of the latest features or bug fixes. If it cannot even start, I cannot even start to form an opinion about freecad.

I would appreciate any assistance to explain the problem. Part way through the process, I posted on the Ubuntu forums here:

Frequently asked questions ( 5 )

What is the easiest way to install FreeCAD on my system?

If you are on Debian, Fedora or Ubuntu and some other distributions, FreeCAD is already included in the standard software repositories and you can simply install it with the software manager. On Ubuntu, the FreeCAD team also maintains its own PPA repositories

What are the prerequisites for running FreeCAD?

What if I want to compile FreeCAD myself?

The source code of FreeCAD is always available in the project source code repository. Compiling FreeCAD yourself allows you to use the most recent features being developed, but requires a bit of computer knowledge, although the procedure is fairly simple

All the main required components are usually bundled within your FreeCAD installation or provided by your package manager, so normally you have nothing to worry about. If you installed FreeCAD from unofficial sources, however, or compiled FreeCAD yourself, some piece might be missing, which is not critical to FreeCAD itself, but might cause some functionality to be unavailable. Some specific file formats such as Collada or DWG also require extra components, which cannot be bundled into FreeCAD, and must be installed by yourself separately.

Most startup crashes occur because of one of the two following reasons:

OpenGL drivers are not installed, or not working properly
Some library, needed by FreeCAD, is not present on your system, or wasn’t found by FreeCAD

I got a new laptop recently and am just learning linux. It runs great and im learning a lot, but I have one problem with the hardware. Im used to the backspace being the most upper right key. Whenever I try to hit the backspace, I end up hitting home and returning the cursor to the begining of the line. I was wondering if there was someway to change the home key to become backspace as well. I never use the home function and would rather have an extra backspace or even a key that does nothing, than a key that moves my cursor away from the mistake and doesnt erase it. Is there anyway to either make the home button also backspace, or just do nothing?
