PSU Initialized failed-ssdevm.dll

I’ve just upgraded from Vista Business to Windows 7 Ultimate. On startup I get the following message in a box: «Initialized failed-ssdevm.dll». The term «PSU» is in the top left side of the box. Any ideas on what this means and how to fix it? Thus far there doesn’t appear to be any obvious issue with Windows 7 performance.

I would recommend you to try these methods:

Boot the computer in clean boot and check which third party software or program is causing the problem. To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a «clean boot.» A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Steps to perform clean boot and check if you have the issue.

i. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

ii. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

iii. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.

iv. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.

v. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.

vii. When you are prompted, click Restart.

viii. After the computer starts, check whether the problem is resolved.

If the issue is resolved check which startup program might be causing the problem, referring the link given below:

Reset the computer to start as usual

After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

i. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

ii. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

iii. On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.

iv. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.

Run the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer to fix the system file errors on the computer.
To run SFC scan, follow the steps:
Open an elevated command prompt. To do this,

iv. And then click Run as administrator.

vi. At the prompt, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.Once the scan is complete, restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

I tried the solution provided here for windows 7 https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/psu-initialized-failed-ssdevmdll/37b9b0fd-69e0-4b72-ac27-305923407fe9

but it does not seem to fix the issue.

I also tried Virus/malware scan using malwarebytes, the scan could not detect any harm to the computer.

Same notification on start-up. Notice began appearing after the last Windows 10 update several days ago.

Corollary problem that appeared before the first attempt at a restart resulted in seeing the notice: the devices connected to the USB hubs I use appear not to be recognized by the computer any longer, with the exception of a 64G flash drive. The USB on the computer ports work if I plug the devices in directly, but not if they are connected via the hubs. I have tried disallowing Windows from shutting down the hubs to save energy; plugging the devices into the computer directly (which worked); unplugging and replugging the hubs (which did not work).

1. Are you able to boot to Windows 8 in normal mode?

2. When exactly are you receiving this message? is it on startup or when you perform any specific task?

It seems that ssdevm.dll belongs to Samsung MFP from Samsung Electronics. Non-system processes like ssdevm.dll originate from software you installed on your system.

If you have installed any Samsung printer or other Samsung devices installed, you may need to reinstall it and check if it helps.

You may also check if the device is compatible with Windows 8.

Uninstall the device.

a. Press Windows logo + X and select Device manager.

b. In device manager check for the device, right click on it and select ‘uninstall’.

You may also refer Samsung website and try installing the latest version of device drivers and check if it helps.

If Windows 8 drivers are not available, then install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode and check if it helps.
