This game should run with relatively few issues on old and new rigs. If you do have problems you need to troubleshoot your system. Plenty of guides online how to do that.
Start with graphics/sound drivers and check your system for malware, things you should be doing as regular maintenance anyway.
Its a brand new pc, with a brand new windows install, it is free from «virus and malware» im educated as a PC supporter 20 years ago, so all drivers are updated and my system is working. 🙂
Try XP service pack 3 instead of windows 7, and consider patching the medieval2.exe with the 4GB patch.
I will try that, ty
Where do i get that patch?

Event viewer shows «The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device HID\VID_046D&PID_0A9C&MI_03&Col02\7&1ec7e008&0&0001.» tho, and as far as i can see thats USB related.
but i agree that drivers can cause issues, also the newest drivers are not always the best ones.
I tried to use the 4GB patch (took a backup of the exe just in case) and i also set the game to run in XP Compatibility mode, lets see if that works 🙂

Fatal error doesn’t mean squat.
What are you doign when the game crashes.

When starting up the game I get this message.
That sounds like a wrong installation.
Are you trying to run a mod or vanilla?
The empty error message only with an exclamation mark is often a case of an invalid CFG file. Delete the medieval2.configuration.cfg file and try again.
But no audio attached? That’s the first time I am hearing that.

I’ve recently bought the game and was so excited to play SS6.4, but the game started to crashing with an error which is in the title. I played 36 turns without a single crash, but then it crashes anytime, mostly it annoys me when I win an epic battle but the error occurs so I have to play it again and put another effort in it. Please how can I get rid off this error forever?
Its one of those errors that attached itself to the saved game is it?
Often it will be non combattant units attached to the error, such as diplomats etc etc.
Start going crazy with Assassins, thats how i solved a similar persistant error previously.
Game runs out of RAM to use (limited to 2gb courtesy of 32bit software) and thus crash.
LAA removes 2gb limit which solves 99/100 mod related issues.
Thanks for help, but it didn’t work. Now I am going follow this tutorial:
@Inardesco You mean like 1.27 fixes which fixes the units like Knights Hospitallers?
@Gigantus Are you sure if I use your guide exactly as it is written, I won’t encounter any problems in the future?
I lost my patience when I started a battle as defender and then I did not even make it until »Deploy units» option and then I encoutered Fatal Graphics Error and Unspecified Error at the same time.
It should fix most battle related crashes. In my first campaign on SS it worked fine until I got to war with the HRE. That’s when my game started crashing.

IF you follow it properly then problems should be reduced to mod internal issues, provided you use the guide’s link to my separate installer for the 1.27 fix and apply it.
For further problems I would recommend to visit the mod’s site: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?314
Ok.
Lets start at the beginning.
Does Medieval 2 vanilla work?
Have you installed Stainless Steel 6.3 + 6.4patch and the v1.27fix?
Where do you install Stainless Steel 6.3? Do you install it in its own folder or did you do stupid and renamed one of your kingdoms campaigns?
Do you even have Kingdoms?
Have you copied medieval2.exe and renamed it kingdoms.exe
That’s all the installation related things.
Now on to your campaign.
How many saves do you have?
Have you used an older save to see if it works?
Have you tried autoresolving and then continueing?
Have you started a new campaign to see if the problem persists in a new save file?
If your save is corrupted, then no amount will fix it.
@Inardesco I really like your spirit and I see you really want to help me so I will try to cooperate.
Last time it crashed when I fought 2 battles per turn.
Medieval vanilla works.
I installed Stainless Steel 6.3, then 6.4, then 1.27.
I installed Stainless Steel 6.3 to D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3 and I didn’t rename anything.
I copied medieval2.exe and renamed it to kingdoms.exe.
I used LargeAdressAware on SS_Launcher. (. maybe this is the issue. )
I have only one autosave, which is currently 1116AD as France.
I haven’t used an older save, because there weren’t any due to reinstall.
I haven’t tried autoresolve, autoresolve depends on the strenght, I would not let autoresolve a battle which is a certain defeat.
I started a new campaign after the reinstall, made it until 1116AD(32 turns) and then crash kicked me out of the game.

Not entirely sure if that is a launcher glitch or what but one thing you could try is going inside your steam folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War finding your launcher deleting it then renaming Medieval.exe into Launcher. This should trick the game into bypassing the launcher competly hopefully fixing t
he issue.

guys i got really luck, one day i triedto play the game and it PLAYS i never fixed this issue but strangly it fixed itself
So, I just tried the unpack fix and it worked (for me) :
Under your steam folder find: Medieval II Total War/tools/unpacker
You should have 4 files there. run the unpack_all.bat file. A cmd prompt starts up. let it run.
After it’s done go to Medieval II Total War/data and delete the files called «descr_geography_new» ( I would cut and paste it elsewhere just to have’em as backup)
Then I ran the game and the error was gone.
I found a solution!
-Go to your Library tab and right click Medieval II: Total War
-Select Properties
-Go to Local Files tab
-Click Verifty game cache integrity
Let it run, it found some errors then proceded to fix them. When it was done the error was nowhere to be found.
