How to clear HTTP / HTTPS Redirect Cache by deleting the cached HSTS Settings in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox
HTTP Strict Transport Security aka HSTS – is a web security policy mechanism (specified in RFC 6797) which helps to protect websites against protocol downgrade attacks and cookie hijacking; in a nutshell, it allows web servers to declare that web browsers (or other complying user agents) should only interact with them using secure HTTPS connections and never via the insecure HTTP protocol.
As you can see, the above header would instruct the browser to allow only HTTPS requests for that domain for the next year (max-age is specified in seconds; 31,536,000 is equal to one non-leap year).
HSTS is an effective countermeasure for man-in-the-middle attacks and is one of the most important HTTP Security Headers that any decent publicly-facing web site should be equipped with: if you want to know more about these headers – and/or require instructions on how to implement them in Nginx, Apache and/or IIS – I strongly suggest to read this post.
The issue
In this article I will talk about a very specific issue that might happen when using HSTS on a HTTPS-enabled website which gets the SSL certificate removed, thus reverting back to HTTP. This can happen for a number of reasons, such as when the website gets transferred to a different host / hostname – together with the SSL certificate or by issuing a new one – while leaving the old instance online… OR, if the System Administrator – you or something else – messes things up during the configuration.
When something like this happens, you might end up with the folllowing error given by your browser(s):
Privacy error: Your connection is not private (NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID)
The Fix
Luckily enough, such issue can be easily fixed by clearing the HSTS cache/status for a specific web site. Here’s how to do that in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox:

Кроме кэша, ещё есть файлы cookies. Это тоже временные файлы, которые сохраняют данные посещённых сайтов. Их главное отличие от кеша — сохранение персональных данных. Это не только данные для авторизации, но и настройки масштаба страницы, язык, валюта и многое другое. Также cookies могут использоваться для предотвращения мошенничества. Через куки сайты проверяют, кем выполняются действия – пользователем или роботом.

Кликните в правом углу экрана на три горизонтальные линии и нажмите Настройки:

Как настроить автоматическую очистку кэша
Очищать временные файлы вручную необязательно. Mozilla Firefox можно настроить так, чтобы временные данные удалялись при каждом закрытии браузера. Можно приобрести PRO версию, но это необязательно. Бесплатная версия наполнена большим функционалом.

How to turn off caching on Firefox?
During development I have to «clear cache» in Firefox all the time in order to make it use the latest version of JavaScript files.
Is there some kind of setting (about:config) to turn off caching completely for JavaScript files? Or, if not, for all files?

Enter «about:config» into the Firefox address bar and set:
The Web Developer Toolbar has an option to disable caching which makes it very easy to turn it on and off when you need it.
There is no specific option to disable caching only for JavaScript, you will have to disable caching entirely.
FireBug has an option to disable the browser cache on the Network tab’s drop down menu.

After that it will reload page from its own (you are on) and every thing is recached and any furthure request are recahed every time too and you may keep the web developer open always to keep an eye and make sure its always on (check).
If you’re working with server side code you could generate a random number and append it to the end of the src in the following manner.
with the randomNumber being randomly generated each time.
I know I’m resurrecting an ancient question, but I was trying to solve this problem today and have an alternate solution. Toggling caching when I want to test was not really acceptable for me, and as others mentioned, hard refreshing (ctrl+shift+r) doesn’t always work.
On my dev environment, this ensures that js and css are always retrieved. Additionally it doesn’t affect the rest of my browsing, and it also works for all browsers, so testing in chrome / ie etc is also easy.
To make sure that my clients always see the latest version on production, we increment the query string on the js include on each update, ie
This forces my clients’ browsers to update their local cache when they see a new querystring, but then caches the new copy until the file is updated again
Best strategy is to design your site to build a unique URL to your JS files, that gets reset every time there is a change. That way it caches when there has been no change, but imediately reloads when any change occurs.
You’d need to adjust for your specific environment tools, but if you are using PHP/Apache, here’s a great solution for both you, and the end-users.

You can setup you web server to send a no-cache/Expires/Cache-Control headers for the js files.

There are pros and cons to the last two solutions posted, but they’re both IMHO great solutions.
You may or may not want your session ID embedded in your url like that for tighter security. But in development that shouldn’t matter, but what if you forget to remove it? Also does that really work? Wouldn’t you need something like a sequential number generator (hit count stored in the session, or maybe even just if 1 then 0, if 0 then 1)?
Adding a session id (or whatever sequencer) means you need to remember to add it to every resource you don’t want cached. On the one hand that’s better because you can just include your session id with just that resource you’re actively developing and testing. On the other hand, it means you have to do that and you have to remember to remove that for production.

In the past in order to properly disable Firefox’s cache I would set ‘network.http.use-cache’ in about:config, however now the option seems to have been removed, or at least its name seems to have changed as I can’t find anything under that any more on the latest version of Firefox. So on the latest version (currently 46.0.1) how can one properly disable the cache?

Right, so it is the disk cache that I need to disable and that is now the option for disabling the cache? Also, sorry for my ignorance, but what does «PB» stand for?
The specific reason why I wish to disable the cache is security, I have had far too many malicious scripts coming with images and hiding in my cache causing me trouble, so if I am going to get any malicious scripts with my images or anything like that I want to be able just to restart my browser in order to clear it from memory and everything so I don’t want a persistent cache. I have also not noticed any performance issue when disabling it so it helps me in terms of security, and doesn’t seem to cause any issues.
